Tauna Jean Payne Johnson, 43, of Orem left this earthly existence peacefully on November 8, 1997, having made the most of every day.

She was born February 13, 1954, in Provo to Arnold E. and Norene Stratton Payne. She married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) R. Johnson, from Provo on February 9, 1974, in the Provo LDS Temple. After graduating from Provo High School and Brigham Young University in business, she worked as a secretary at BYU and at Geneva Steel. She was outstanding in her field and well-known for her efficiency and organizational skills.

Tauna was a gracious woman of unique character and talents in many areas. She continued to achieve and acquired a real estate license, while dealing with cancer. Tauna was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Though capable of excelling in anything, she chose to dedicate herself to her family. Her cherished sons, Jared and Matt, brought life's greatest joy to her.

Tauna was a person who loved to have her hands in garden soil creating beauty around her home as well as in it. She enjoyed friendships, skiing, music, tennis and travel. The meaning she found in service was of great benefit to others. She was a real friend.

An active member of the LDS Church, she served in various positions as a Primary teacher, Primary president, Relief Society secretary and received a great deal of joy serving in the Cub Scouts. She loved working with children and so very much appreciated their love, faith and prayers in her behalf.

Tauna taught us to value life, not by its length but by its depth; to care, to love, and to focus on life rather than on life's challenges.

Tauna is survived by her husband, Jim; two sons, Jared and Matt Johnson; parents, Arnold and Norene Payne; one brother and two sisters, John Payne (Tammy) of Sandy, Susan Rogers (Paul) of Orem, Tami Shahan (Stan) of Bountiful; her kindred sister, Martsy Maughan of Orem; and many loving nieces and nephews.
