Fern Aileen Harker Erickson left behind on Nov. 8, 1997 at the age of 93, the travails of her last days of an otherwise long and interesting life.
Born July 15, 1904 in Relief Hill, California, a daughter of Caroline Gronning and Charles Allen Harker. Her mother and father later moved to Salt Lake City, where she continued to reside. She married Edren Darell Erickson in 1938; they divorced in 1947. She is survived by a son, Lynn. For over 20 years Fern taught first grade in the Granite School District, teaching many of those years at the old Madison Elementary, located at the time on State Street and Oakland Avenue. She was affectionately known as "Miss Fern" by many of her students.
In 1951 and until her retirement in 1982 Fern was engaged in the antique business, operating shops at several different locations in the city. She was a shrewd and astute business woman in the trade with many satisfied and repeat customers. Antiquing was a great enjoyment for her.
Throughout her life Fern was possessed with a certain strength of will, a vivacious personality and above all, the gift of conversation, which she retained until the end.
Lynn desires to express appreciation to their mutual friend, Genevie Romero, who demonstrated a loyal interest in Fern's well-being by assisting her at various times during the latter part of her life.
"God bless and speed you on your way to Heaven, dearest mother, and friend. We shall keep you in our hearts forever".
At Fern's request, no services are planned. For those who knew her, remembering her with a kind thought from time to time will suffice.
