An advocate for police brutality victims was chosen as a special prosecutor to handle the involuntary manslaughter case against an FBI agent involved in a deadly standoff with a white separatist in Ruby Ridge, Idaho.

Attorney Stephen Yagman took the oath of office Wednesday to serve as special deputy prosecutor, assisting Boundary County, Idaho, Prosecutor Denise Woodbury.FBI sharpshooter Lon Horiuchi is accused of criminal negligence for killing Vicki Weaver, the wife of white separatist Randy Weaver, with a single shot.

Horiuchi, who testified in an earlier trial that he was aiming at Weaver, could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted under state law. He has asked for the case to be moved to federal court.
