Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon has unveiled a $17.7 million proposed budget that is up 6.5 percent from last year's spending plan.

The budget for 1998 would set aside $120,000 to hire four new sheriff's deputies, providing the county 24-hour law enforcement coverage for the first time in about six years. Part of the cost of hiring the officers would be covered by federal grants. The county's new fiscal blueprint would not require any increases in local property taxes, Lemon said.

Lemon also proposes giving all employees a 3 percent cost-of-living raise. He also recommends giving most employees a 1 percent increase on their anniversary date and up to 1 percent for a merit increase, based on their performance evaluations.

He proposes giving a 4 percent raise to elected officials, except himself and the county attorney, who would get a 3 percent raise.
