Police have arrested a Nevada man who allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old woman who was riding her bike.
Police say a man with a gun grabbed the woman Monday afternoon as she was riding her bike in Pioneer Park, held a gun to her neck and told her, "Consider yourself kidnapped."The woman struggled with the man, who hit her in the head with the gun, knocking her unconscious momentarily. She told police that when she came to, the man was helping her up.
The woman hit the man and fled. As she ran away, she and three witnesses say they heard a gunshot.
She used a cellular phone to call police, giving a description of the man and the car in which he left.
A short time later, off-duty police officer Chris Ray stopped a car matching the description and held a 44-year-old Pioche, Nev., man until additional officers arrived.
According to a police report, officers found a .45-caliber Ruger pistol under the suspect's car seat. Police say the suspect admitted pulling the woman from her bike but denied firing a shot at her.
He was charge with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault. He remains in the Washington County Jail on $35,000 bail.
