If you see trucks hauling desks, files, chairs and boxes of paper out of the Murray City Center or the nearby shops over the next week, don't panic.
The city's not leaving town. But several departments are moving to the new $4.4 million Public Services complex at 4646 S. 500 West, and the fun will begin this week.
Scheduled to move are:
- The street, water and sewer departments currently located in the city shops. They will move Monday and Tuesday.
- The city's vehicle fleet maintenance operations, which also has operated out of the city shops. Also moving Monday and Tuesday.
- All the city engineers office divisions including engineering, inspections, building permits, road cuts and building plan checking. Those functions have been located in room 200 at the City Center and will move Wednesday and Thursday.
- The entire community development department, including the planning and zoning division, zoning enforcement and the Murray Redevelopment Agency. These offices have been located in room 203 at the City Center and also will move Wednesday and Thursday.
City officials are urging Murray residents with business at any of these offices to coordinate their visits with the move.
During the moving days for each office, they will only be staffed with skeleton crews to handle inquiries and perform minor functions.
The street, water and sewer departments will be open for business in the new location on Wednesday, while the engineering and community development offices will resume work in the 500 West complex on Friday.
Residents who need to phone those offices can still dial the numbers listed in the blue pages of the phone book. The calls will be automatically forwarded to the phones in the new complex.
If any numbers are changed, callers will hear recorded instructions giving them new numbers.
Despite the relocation effort, Murray residents won't get out of paying their utilities bills this month.
Bill payments and service signups are still being handled in rooms 115 and 118 in the Murray City Center.
The new Public Services complex is located on eight acres of property the city is purchasing from Simon Trucking company, which includes existing buildings and a truck washing facility.
City officials are combining that site with 10 adjoining acres of city property to house all public works-related operations.
Plans also call for additional storage buildings at the complex.
