Salina will host its first Blackhawk Old-time Fiddle Contest Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, with plans to make it an annual event.

A free concert and jam session will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Competition will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, preceded by contestant registration from 10 to 11 a.m. All events will be at the Blackhawk Arena.Musicians will compete in four fiddle divisions in addition to open competition in banjo, guitar and mandolin. Officials said $1,000 will be distributed in prizes and the contest will be highlighted with a "People's Choice" Award. Rules will be sanctioned by the Utah Old Time Fiddlers Association.

Spectators are encouraged to attend free of charge.

The Blackhawk Arena and the Fishlake Old Time Fiddlers Association are conducting the contest.

The fiddle contest will be held in conjunction with the Cowboy Rodeo Commission championship finals. Fiddle division winners will be admitted to the rodeo Saturday night as complimentary guests.
