Shirley Grace Giles Gerber, 76, passed away November 1, 1997, in her sleep in Salt Lake City.
She was born December 22, 1920, in Salt Lake City to James A. Giles and Alice M. Stanley. She married Theron Donald Johnson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1940; he died in 1943. She later married Harold Charles Gerber in 1946; he died in June of 1994. Shirley spent most of her life serving others unselfishly and will be sorely missed by her family.Shirley is survived by two sisters, Margaret (Charles) Geurts of Salt Lake City, and Virginia Johnson of Magna; four daughters, Kay (Milton) Sanders of Orem, Linda (Ronald) Ross of Salt Lake City, Maureen (Stephen) Free of Buffalo, NY, and Deborah (Brad) Hoffman of Salt Lake City; one stepdaughter, Sharilyn Gerber (Roy); one stepson, Alan (Barbara) Gerber of Mesa, AZ; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by one sister, Mary Walker, and one daughter, Renee Jacobsen.
Shirley was known for her great love of music as she sang in many performing groups and LDS Church choirs. She served as Primary president and in the ward Relief Society. She has given many hours of compassionate service throughout her life.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at 11 a.m. at the Holladay 2nd Ward Chapel, 2065 East 4675 South. A viewing is scheduled at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, on Tuesday, November 4, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, 7800 South 3115 East.
