Erma Hatch Griffin, age 90, died November 1, 1997, in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of a ruptured aneurysm.

She was born July 2, 1907, in Vernal, Utah, to Josephus Hatch and Martha Luella Thomas. She was the 12th of 13 children. She attended school in Vernal, Rainbow, and Pleasant Grove. She was always bothered by the fact that she never graduated, so she finally did the required subjects and received her high school diploma in 1978 from Provo High School.She married Stanley Funk Griffin in the Logan LDS Temple February 24, 1928. They made their home in Newton, Utah. In 1953 they moved to Moses Lake, Washington, where six months later her husband and son were killed in a tragic farm accident. Erma moved back to Pleasant Grove to be with her people, then later moved to Provo where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was active in the LDS Church, serving as Primary teacher, Primary president and Stake Board member of the Primary in Smithfield Stake. She also served as a Relief Society president, taught Sunday School and Mutual and was a visiting teacher for 70 years. In 1974 she served a mission in the Florida Tallahassee, Mission for 18 months. She worked in the Provo LDS Temple for many years as an ordinance worker.

She is survived by two children, Stanley Hatch Griffin, American Fork, Utah; and Oris Griffin Boan, Pleasant Grove, Utah. One sister, Veola Hatch Rasmussen of Hurricane, Utah is still living. Two children, John Edward and Mereda Griffin Luster, preceded her in death. She has eight grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East in Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the services at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Newton Cemetery, Newton, Utah.
