Some US WEST customers are getting charged for three-way calls they had no intention of making.

Their penalty is 75 cents each time they fail to hang up for at least two seconds before starting another call.Hanging up for less than two seconds and then dialing a new telephone number is how US WEST callers set up a three-way telephone conversation.

"We realize that some customers have been charged," US WEST spokesman Clint Berry said

Customers have complained to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, saying they did not make the calls US WEST charged them for. The commission is forwarding the complaints to US WEST.

Berry said customers who complain will receive an explanation and will have their accounts credited.
