Tarik Wallace broke a tie with a crucial 3-pointer, and Nick Davis added a key free throw as Arkansas defeated No. 12 Fresno State 70-69 in the first game of the Premier Classic in Phoenix.

Wallace broke a 66-66 tie with 1:58 to play, and Davis made the first shot of a one-and-one 42 seconds later. Davis finished with 15 points, and Wallace 14.Fresno's Willie Farley sank a 3-pointer with 1:01 left for the final points of the game.

With 10 seconds to play, Wallace stepped on the line for a turnover. The Razorbacks had two fouls to give, and used them in the next six seconds. After Fresno's final in-bounds pass, Demetrius Porter missed an off-balance 13-footer, and the buzzer sounded as the ball came off the rim.

Arkansas improved to 4-0 for the first time in four years.

Avondre Jones had 23 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for the Bulldogs (3-1), Farley 17 points, Rafer Alston 11 points and eight assists, and Tremaine Fowlkes nine points and 14 rebounds.

The Bulldogs played their second game without shooting guard Chris Herren, who left the team Tuesday because of a substance-abuse problem.

(1) ARIZONA 97, NC ASHEVILLE 69: At Tucson, Ariz., Michael Dickerson scored 20 points and top-ranked Arizona overcame a sloppy first half to beat North Carolina Asheville.

The Wildcats (4-1) were playing for the first time since losing to No. 3 Duke in the Maui Invitational championship game Wednesday night in Hawaii.

Arizona turned the ball over on its first six possessions and had 12 turnovers at halftime.

(7) UCLA 86, ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM 72: At Anchorage, Alaska, Toby Bailey scored 14 of UCLA's final 16 points in the last four minutes to lead a comeback victory over Alabama-Birmingham in the Great Alaska Shootout.

The No. 7 Bruins (2-1) were behind by 18 points with 14:30 left, but Bailey and Baron Davis combined for 29 points down the stretch.

Bailey finished with 28 points, Davis 22 and J.R. Henderson 21.

(8) KENTUCKY 76, NO. 13 CLEMSON 61: At Phoenix, Wayne Turner started a 15-2 run with a baseline jumper and had nine of his 17 points in the second half as the No. 8 Wildcats broke away from No. 13 Clemson for a victory in the Premier Classic.

Scott Padgett had 15 points and Allen Edwards 13 for the Wildcats (4-1).

(10) NEW MEXICO 86, SAN JOSE STATE 57: At Albuquerque, N.M., Kenny Thomas had 21 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high eight assists as No. 10 New Mexico extended its home winning streak to 31 games with a win over San Jose State.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Thomas has scored and rebounded in double figures in five straight games.

(14) IOWA 101, LONG ISLAND 69: At Iowa City, Iowa, Long Island University, which won its previous game by an NCAA-record 117 points, was on the losing end of a rout.

WISCONSIN 75, (18) OKLAHOMA 64: At Hilo, Hawaii, Duany Duany scored five of his 13 points during a 12-0 fourth quarter run to lead Wisconsin to a win in a consolation game at the Big Island Invitational Tournament.

Duany scored on a three-point play to break a 50-50 tie moments into the fourth quarter. Duany added another basket during the deciding run, and Sean Daugherty hit a 3-pointer in the spurt.

GEORGIA TECH 73, (19) LOUISVILLE 69: At Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Matt Harpring had 18 points as Georgia Tech won the Puerto Rico Shootout.

Freshman Dion Glover also had 18 points and Michael Maddox had 16 to lead Tech (4-0). Both were selected to the all-tournament team, and Harpring was picked as the tournament's most valuable player.
