Scottish music will get a boost in south-central Utah through an ethnic arts grant from the Folk Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council.

The grant was approved for the Central Utah Highlanders Pipe Band. It is part of an endowment created in 1990 through funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and matched by the Utah Legislature.John Robinson, founder of the Highlanders along with Eddie Taylor, said the purpose of the pipe band is to further the heritage, arts and tradition of the Scottish culture among people of all cultural backgrounds.

Robinson said the $500 grant will be used to purchase practice chanters for people interested in learning to play the bagpipe. He will teach new students and may be contacted at 896-5038 for more information or lessons.
