This city's incumbents fared well in Tuesday's election, in complete but unofficial results.
Mayor Richard L. Harvey and City Council member L. Dale Green both won sweeping victories.Harvey trounced his opponent, Daniel J. Phelps, 614 to 273 votes; one additional write-in vote was tallied.
In the race for the pair of two-year City Council seats that were open, L. Dale Green and Diane Maynes claimed victories, racking up 559 and 516 votes, respectively. Green is an incumbent.
Losers in the council contest were Carol Stewart, 448 votes, and Neil Blackburn, 217.
Green, who is completing his first term on the council, said he believed all the candidates were good choices. Among the challenges the city government will face during his next term is a disagreement with the Utah Department of Transportation over U.S. 89, which runs through Fruit Heights.
At the Cherry Hill overpass, he said, "they've got our exits so that we can't go back to Farmington. We have to turn back to Kaysville," before heading in the Farmington direction.
"We want a stop light there. We feel that's a concession that they can make," Green added.
City officials will meet with UDOT on Friday to discuss the issues, he said.
"We haven't got many concessions" out of the state highway officials, he complained. "Farmington's received everything they've gone after."
