An unopposed mayor's race may have let John Cushing coast back into the mayor's seat, but the incumbent won't have an easy ride in the next four years.
Issues such as the landfill, deregulation of electricity, public safety and maintaining a thriving tax base will keep the retired businessman active at the helm of this residential community.Cushing, 63, received 2,452 votes in Tuesday's general election to send him on to a second term.
Two council members running for seats also were assured of an easy victory in unopposed races. Incumbent Sam Fowler, 72, received 2,375 votes, while political newcomer Stewart Knowlton had 2,269 voters whisk him into office. Both men have cited development in the city as a pressing issue.
