George Hastings, 92, returned to his Father in Heaven, Nov. 2, 1997.
He was born July 14, 1905 in Virgin, Utah, to John Henry Hastings and Martha Jepson Hastings. His growing up years were in Hurricane, Utah. He always talked about the building of the Hurricane Canal, taking a wagon of fruit with a team of horses throughout Southern Utah, and going to get lumber that was lowered off of the east rim of Zions Canyon by a cable. He served LDS missions to the Southern States and a St. George Temple mission as an ordinance worker, where he met Thelma Heaton. They were married July 8, 1939 in the St. George Temple.Survived by six children, G. Melvin and Ana Hastings, Olympia, WA; Maxine and Kenton Willis, Salt Lake City, UT; Paul G. and Colleen Hastings; Stephen A. and Sharon Hastings, all of Sandy, UT; Carolyn and Jed Van den Akker, Taylorsville, UT; Michael D. and Holly Hastings, Eden, UT; brother, Ether and Huberta Hastings, Hurricane, UT. George has 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Midvale East LDS Stake Center, 240 East 7570 South, Midvale, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
