Iron Mission State Park and the Chamber of Commerce note that several activities are scheduled as part of Cedar City's 146th birthday on Tuesday, Nov. 11, which also is Veterans Day. Among the events planned:
- A flag ceremony at 9 a.m. in the city cemetery.- Crafts demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the state park, 635 N. Main. Volunteers will help children and adults learn more about everyday skills of the pioneers. Fees are $1 per person or $3 per car up to eight persons. Entrance fees will be waived for local school groups.
- At 11 a.m., a ceremony in the Sharwan Smith Center ballroom at Southern Utah University will honor veterans.
- Steven D. Bennion, the new SUU president, will be the featured speaker as part of a town meeting at 2 p.m. in Cedar City's Rock Church.
- At 7 p.m. at the state park, Philip Notarianni, coordinator of public programs for the Utah Historical Society, will offer an overview of "Mining in Utah." The event is free.
- The annual Birthday Ball begins at 8 p.m. in Sharwan Smith Center, with music and entertainment provided by the Winn Seegmiller Orchetra and SUU's Acclamation.
