David I. Tew, 66, died November 4, 1997, due to an extended illness.
David was born in Nephi, Utah, to John Ivan Tew and LaVelle Ockey, May 9, 1931. After graduating from Juab High School in 1950, he served his country in the Korean War, as a member of the Utah Army National Guard. Shortly after returning from Korea, he accepted an LDS mission call to Hawaii. The highlight of his life was when he married Norma Rose Hensley, his best friend and eternal companion, June 8, 1957, in the Los Angeles Temple. He was an avid fan and alumnus of BYU. In 1993, he retired from the Escondido, California School District, after 35 years as an educator and school administrator.David was an active member in the LDS Church. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and served as high councilor, counselor in the stake presidency, a bishop, and stake mission counselor, along with other positions. He and Norma also served a mission in the Africa Zimbabwe and Iowa Des Moines missions. He always enjoyed working with the youth, who loved him for his enthusiasm and genuine love for them. David will be best remembered for his devotion to his family, gentle humor, and his selfless service to the Lord and others.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; one brother, Milton, and three sisters, Joyce, Erma, and Mary. He is also survived by his four children, Tami Farnsworth (Steve), David C. (Elizabeth), Tonya Dean (Clay), and Brian J. (Jacqueline), and 16 grandchildren. Grandpa will be greatly missed. He made life fun!
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 8, 1997 in the Salem Stake Center, 470 East Salem Canal Road, at 12 noon. The viewing will be 10-11:30 a.m. in the Salem Stake Center, prior to funeral services. He will be laid to rest in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
