James Paul Lyman, age 56, passed away Saturday, November 1, 1997 in Salt Lake City, after suffering a massive heart attack October 8 in Roundup, MT.

He was born November 12, 1940 in Nephi, Utah, the seventh child of 11 children born to Harry Benson and Dorothy Dee Newcomb Lyman. He graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville. He attended USU and BYU, where he graduated. He married Cheryl Dee Wolff in the Cardston Temple in 1966.He was an active member of the LDS Church, having served a mission in the Northwestern States Mission and served in many leadership positions: bishopric, stake high council, Sunday School and seminary teacher. He loved teaching and explaining the gospel to others.

He spent many years in the service of the BSA as a professional scouter and recently as a manager and area supervisor of RV camp grounds throughout the U.S. He loved the great outdoors, where with his family, he hunted, camped, and hiked in the beautiful mountains, valleys, and streams of the western mountains that he loved so much. He loved all sports, including competitive game of horseshoes.

Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was always there to shoulder a burden and lend a hand for those in need.

Surviving are five children, Robert Paul (LeeAnn), Richardson, TX; Gregory Dean (Kristin), Earlysville, VA; Kirk David (Staci), Provo; Kristi Lynn (Steve) Dizaiy, Santee, CA; Marni Jean, Richardson, TX; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline, Mary, McKenzie, Mason, Anne, Joseph, Hanna; four brothers, Stan (LouAnn), Kaysville; Gene (Arlene), Hurricane; Rick (Coleen), Clinton; Craig (Noreen), Edmond, OK; four sisters, Bette (Jim) Maxwell, Cincinnati, OH; Norma (Steve) Ellis, Hurricane; DeAnn Decker, Taylor, AZ; Vicki (Perry) Bolyard, Riverside, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary; and his sister, Camille Callahan.

Graveside services Saturday, November 8, 1997 at 12 noon at Aultorest Cemetery, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends and family will meet from 10:30-11:30 at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, prior to services.
