SWIMMING/DIVING: The University of Utah swimming and diving team opens its season against BYU Friday at 6 p.m. in the Ute Natatorium. Admission is free.
BASKETBALL: The first Crimson Club basketball luncheon of the 1997-98 season will be Monday at noon at the University Park Hotel. Coach Rick Majerus will be the speaker. Other Crimson Club luncheons will be held Dec. 8, Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and Feb. 17, all at the University Park Hotel. The luncheons are open to the public.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Susanne Gillemo shot a three-round 220 to capture medalist honors and lead BYU's women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Princeville Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic Tues-day in Hawaii.
The Cougar senior recorded rounds of 75-70-75 to edge out Miami's Brandi Mille (222) for the individual title. With two other golfers in the top five, Miami outpaced the Cougars for the title with a score of 890 to 905.
SOCCER: All-American Shauna Rohbock scored the lone goal in BYU's 1-0 victory over San Jose State in Thursday's semifinal game at the WAC's Women's Soccer Champ-ion-ship.
The shutout improves the Cougars record to 19-2 on the season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Wildcats opens their 1997-98 season Saturday in an exhibition game against the Portland Saints, an AAU team from Portland, Ore. Tipoff is 3:05 p.m. in the Dee Events Center.

MEN'S GOLF: Chris Moody shared the individual lead after the first round of the 49er Collegiate Golf Classic, firing a 68 on his first trip around the Virginia Country Club on Monday. After a 76 in the afternoon round, Moody was tied for 18th, while USU teammate Todd Tanner was tied for 20th.

SOCCER: The men's and women's soccer teams will head to the national championship in States- boro, Ga., Nov. 19-23. It will be the second time for the women and third for the men at the national event.
The women's team plays its last home game Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Utah State, and the men wind up their home season Saturday at 10 a.m. vs. Boise State at Eisenhower Junior High, 4351 S. Red-wood Road.
