"Warren Miller's Snowriders 2: The Journey Continues," the 48th ski adventure film by the Colorado filmmaker, begins a limited engagement in Utah at Peery's Egyptian Theatre on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 12 and 13.
A sequel to last year's "Snowriders," the film picks up where its predecessor left off, bringing audiences more of the world's top skiers and snowboarders, shown performing some jaw-dropping stunts in exotic locations, including the former Soviet republic of Kazakstan, Switzerland, New Zealand and Snowbird Resort.Included are 1996 World Extreme Ski Champion Chris Davenport and 1995 Extreme Ski Champion Dave Swanwich, who experience "total freedom in every dimension" in Denali, Alaska, as well as mountain-biking athletes who plunge headfirst down ski rubs in Blackcomb Resort in Canada.
Also shown is footage of an oncoming avalance, as well as other segments that feature athletes kayaking through the snow at more than 50 mph, windsurfing activities on fresh powder in Alaska and heli-skiing with disabled skiers.
For the film, Miller's crews traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, while shooting footage for eight consecutive months, usually carrying more than 70 pounds of equipment on their backs.
In addition, the film features a soundtrack with songs by Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Counting Crows, Social Distortion, the Indigo Girls, the Pietasters and the Offspring.
Showtimes for "Snowriders 2" are 8 p.m. on Nov. 11 and 12, 6 and 9 p.m. on Nov. 13.
Tickets are available at all ArtTix outlets, all Pedersen's locations and the respective theater box offices. For groups of 10 or more tickets, call 1-800-729-3456.
