Charlotte Elizabeth Tams Lee, 94, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Brigham City, died Monday, March 10, 1997 in Mesa.
She was born in Paradise, Utah, on March 23, 1902, the daughter of Elias T. and Sarah Helen Lofthouse Tams.Upon graduation from Box Elder High School, she became the postmaster of Willard, Utah, for eight years. At the time, she was the youngest postmaster in the United States. She later served as postmaster at Bushnell Hospital in Brigham.
She married Theron B. Lee in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 4, 1924, and when he set up an accounting practice in Brigham City, she worked in his office as a receptionist and bookkeeper for more than 20 years.
Charlotte was active in all auxiliaries of the LDS Church, and was also active in various civic and service organizations.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Theron; two daughters: Bonnie Thorpe, Mesa, Ariz.; and Luana Horne, Brigham City; one brother, Merline Tams, Wellsville, Utah; one sister, Mary Clifton, Ogden; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Memorial services will be held in the First LDS Ward Chapel, 236 East 2100 So., Brigham, on Saturday, March 15, at 12 noon. Friends may call on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 E. 200 So., Brigham, and one Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until service at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
