A Midvale man has been charged with automobile homicide in connection with the death of a West Jordan man last month.

A 16-year-old boy told police that he was southbound on Holden Street (115 West) in Midvale on Feb. 28 when a Chevrolet Camaro passed him on the inside lane. The road curved, but the Camaro cut back into the right lane and kept going straight over the curve and into a utility pole.The teen said he did not see any brake lights prior to impact, according to documents filed in 3rd District Court. He was traveling about 45 mph and estimated the Camaro was going at least 60 mph when it passed him.

Jobey Ronald Shaver, 19, who was driving the Camaro, later admitted he and passenger David Golden, 19, West Jordan, had been drinking at a party before borrowing a friend's car to take Golden home, the documents state.

Golden died of his injuries.

A toxicology report revealed that the driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.14 shortly after the incident, the charges state. Utah's legal limit is 0.08.

Shaver, of Midvale, was charged with automobile homicide, a third-degree felony. A $10,000 warrant has been issued.
