Into the waiting arms of her beloved husband and daughter, Velma Jackson peacefully ascended on Sunday, March 23, 1997.
Born 90 years ago on April 13, 1907, in Hatton, Utah to Charles Franklin and Emma Rose Seguine Robison, she was the fifth of 11 children. She married John Bryan Jackson on June 11, 1925, in the Salt Lake Temple and they enjoyed over 51 years together before he died in 1976. Her eldest daughter, Eileen, also preceded her in death in 1943.She is survived by six other children: Beverly Richards (Reed M.), Douglasville, Georgia; Shirley Duncan (Elmer S.), Moab; Charles B. (Marguerite), Sandy; and Joseph E. (Sherrie), Cedar City; Stephen L. (Patricia), Sandy; and James E. (Sherry), Layton. Of her 10 brothers and sisters, five are deceased: Leo Arthur, Owen, Bertella, Ruby and Wallace. Surviving her are June Jensen, Charles Elden, Adalene Brumley, Ferron, and Fay Ray (Emerson).
Her legacy is her family of six children, 26 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. It is also her caring, giving life. Her indomitable spirit was born out of her early years in Hatton, Flowell, and Fillmore, living happily in pioneer conditions with an abundance of heart work and caring for her family and many others. After marriage, this continued as her children came, with her first, Eileen, born crippled and for many years caring for her crippled mother and blind mother-in-law in her home, without the benefit of indoor plumbing.
Her life was one of uncompromising service. Aside from her family, she cared for others in their homes and was a practical nurse for many years. She held various church jobs, served a mission with Bryan, was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was Utah Regional Mother of the Year in 1965. Throughout most of her life she quilted and crocheted hundreds of things which she freely gave to family and friends.
She will be remembered and eulogized at funeral services arranged by Olpin Mortuary at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 1997, at the Millard Stake Center, 130 So. 300 West, Fillmore, Utah.
