Dan Hixson, a graphic designer/photographer for Utah Valley State College's College Relations Office, received a first place Paragon Award from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for black-and-white photography.

Hixson's photograph, which was the cover of the Utah Valley Symphony's summer concert program, was awarded first place nationally in the black and white photography division.

The council is a national organization for college professionals in the public relations and marketing field. More than 1,400 entries are submitted to 25 different categories ranging from student advertising to recruitment cam-paigns.

Hixson is art director for "Sequel," the alumni magazine, and other major college publications.
