A stray bullet believed to have been fired by a gang member pierced a home more than 100 yards away and killed a mother and her young daughter, police said Friday.

Los Angeles County deputy sheriff Debra Glafkides said the 28-year-old mother was watching television in the living room and her 3-year-old daughter was playing on the floor nearby Thursday night when the bullet, fired from a high-powered assault rifle, pierced the house and struck them both.
