Salt Lake County deputy sheriffs patrolling the south end of the valley soon will have several new locations where they can begin initial reports, use a fax machine and follow cases by phone.
Circle K stores, in a cooperative agreement with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, will outfit several stores with community policing workstations, complete with equipment needed to aid in their work."It gives a police presence and lets police interact with citizens and businesses," said Lt. Larry Marx.
Several police agencies nationwide have established such agreements with community businesses. Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake also have made such arrangements with other companies, Marx said.
Sandy police also may use the new station, said Lt. Jay Labrum, Community Action Team member.
The Draper Circle K, 14415 S. 700 East, is the first location with such a station set up in a back room, he said.
