If you buy a Bible in Pennsylvania from now on, get ready to kick in a little extra for sales tax.,

The Commonwealth Court has ruled that a 41-year-old law exempting Bibles and other religious materials from sales tax was unconstitutional. By giving a tax break on those items, the state is showing favoritism to religion, the court said in its ruling last week.The state Revenue Department, which defended the exemption, is deciding whether to appeal to the state Supreme Court, said department spokeswoman Wendi Taylor.

The state calculates that it gave up about $900,000 in sales tax revenue this year because of the exemption.
