Anna Lucile Gates Martin, age 73, passed away May 7, 1997 at her home in Provo after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lucile was born October 17, 1923 to Madeline Jennette and James Gates. She was raised in Bothell, Washington, where she graduated Valedictorian in her class. She served in the Navy military during World War II, working in the Naval Intelligence Communications Department and was awarded top recognition for her service from President Truman.She was sealed to her sweetheart, Lester W. Martin, February 11, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple and they began their life together in Provo where they have lived for 51 years. She worked for job service for 33 years.

She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the Sunday School, MIA, and Relief Society auxiliaries. Her life was spent valiantly serving her friends, her neighbors and especially her family. She has touched many lives with her quiet acts of service. We will miss you so, but we rejoice that your suffering is over.

She is survived by her five children, David and Kris Martin, Orem; Melody and Keith Shock, Sandy; Janet and Ron Bryan, Spanish Fork; Pamela and Spencer Cottom, Orem; Barbara Stuart and Keith Harrison, Provo; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Eloise Olsen, Kent, WA; Betty Lancaster, Sequim, WA; Mary Lawler, Richland, WA; Judy Scrivener, Chester, VA; Dorothy Laymance, Linwood, WA.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer/North Park Chapel, 376 North 700 West, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah, Sunday, May 11, 1997 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the ward chapel on Monday, Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
