Aurelia J. "Relia" Nicodemus died of natural causes at her home on May 7, 1997.
Born February 16, 1903 in Evanston, Wyoming, the first of three daughters of Joseph and Anna (Holstead) Jeffs, she excelled in scholastics, public speaking and music during her high school years while also working nights as a railroad telegraph clerk, where she met John H. "Nick" Nicodemus. They were married April 18, 1921 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death in 1970, as did her oldest son "Joe" in 1983.She was a faithful member of the LDS Church all her long life, serving pleasantly and graciously in whatever capacity she was asked, including 11 years on the General Board of the YWMIA.
"Relia" or "Sister Nic" as she was also known, devoted her life to the service of others and was honored during her later years for 41 years of volunteer service at the LDS Hospital and was a recipient of the ZCMI Salute to Excellence Award for Community Service. She also served as a docent at the LDS Church Museum, Editor of the Fourcaster newsletter of the Ensign 4th Ward and published a book of her favorite recipes, quotations and observations of life.
Lovingly known as "Grammy Nic" to her family she is survived by her sister, Ella Woods; her daughter-in-law, Janice (Joe) Nicodemus; son, J. Darrell "Duke" (Genie) Nicodemus and Mona (Richard) Sorensen. She will also be greatly missed by nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors whose loving assistance made it possible for "Relia" to spend her last years in the comfort of her own home and surroundings.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 1997, 1 p.m. at the Ensign 4th Ward, 9th Avenue K Street. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. and at the ward, Monday one hour prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
