Could we show a little more class, a little more judgment, a little more responsibility? In no less than 30 days from the time Robert Davis and Jeff Hawks joined the UTA board, the sudden anti-Pingree majority has requested a meeting to discus the ousting of UTA general manager John Pingree. Hmmmmmm. . . .
Hawker, a former Salt Lake County employee, was appointed by Randy Horiuchi, a longtime Pingree opponent. It will not be tough to guess which way he will vote May 12. And it looks like Davis, named to the board by Weber County, came with a predisposed opinion of Pingree or got sucked in by Pingree's opponents in a hurried fashion. If we were newly appointed to one of the most critical decision-making boards for transportation in the state of Utah, we might take little longer to decide the fate of a man who has made UTA the No. 1 transportation company in the country. We might review things in more detail before joining the anti-Pingree posse.
Please, gentlemen, as representatives of your communities, come to the table with more open minds. Weigh all the issues, if for no other reason than to save yourselves from looking like puppets of anti-Pingree politicians. Think things through in the few days left before May 12.
