Is this a great country or what? Where else do people have the "protected right" to attack elected public servants in defense of one non-elected, power-hungry bureaucrat?
We all have opinions; however, they need not be supported by anything other than one's own prejudices. In his defense of John Pingree, editorial writer Mike Cannon swept aside the collective wisdom of the commissioners in the four Wasatch Front counties, the majority of city mayors and council members, a majority of UTA board members and the majority of the state Legislature. In his defense of Pingree, Mike "Loose" Cannon chose to cite the implementation of split shifts for drivers. What "Loose" so conveniently left out is the fact that some of these drivers are required to spend 15 hours tied to their jobs for as little as four hours' pay. It seems some family nights are more important than others.
Perhaps Pingree could spend his distressed evening thinking about the outrageous, taxpayer-funded pay package he was given by his former rubber-stamp board. It contains close to $200,000 in salary and benefits and an unconscionable $1,000,000 insurance package. How's that for a fringe benefit? This is the same manager whose reaction to a request from female drivers for time at the end of their route so they could go to the restroom was to tell them that they should carry a container to use in the back of the bus.
Bless you, Mr. Cannon, and the right to rhetoric. May you have a peaceful family night; we need more families having them, even those driving for UTA.
