Utah State University will hold its final Broke Horse Sale May 31.
The sale has been an annual event at the USU Horse Arena for the past 12 years. However, this is the last year horses from the USU program will be sold.Students in USU's horsemanship program will show the horses from 2-4 p.m. The sale begins at 5 p.m. Tack and saddles used in the program will also be for sale beginning at 2 p.m. All events are at the USU Horse Arena, 1550 N. 600 East.
Faculty member J'Wayne "Mac" McArthur, who retires in July after directing the horsemanship program for 30 years, said the horses are accustomed to being ridden by numerous people and adjusting to various "rider inadequacies." Students will help buyers select a horse that suits their needs. All horses are geldings and guaranteed sound - a unique feature of this sale, McArthur said. The sale includes quarter horses, paints and appaloosas.
