Utah drivers education teachers help more than 36,000 kids get their licenses every year. The teachers stress safety and strict adherence to traffic laws.

So what happens when the teachers themselves are ticketed for DUI or speeding? Nothing.A Deseret News investigation has revealed that the teachers are not required to report their citations to school administrators. They can - and many do - teach kids the rules of the road while themselves breaking the law.

The inquiry involved the search of more than 200 court and driver's license records and several dozen interviews by Deseret News staff writers Chip Parkinson, Mark L. Reece, Cala Byram, Jennifer Toomer, Hans Moran, Jason Swensen, Steve Fidel and Brian West.
