South Korea's riot police fire tear gas in front of Seoul's Sungkyunkwan University to disperse hundreds of students demanding the resignation of President Kim Young-sam and the arrest of his son, Hyun-chul, in connection with a loans-for-kickback scandal involved in the failed Hanbo Steel corporation. Students lobbed firebombs at police and threw gasoline bombs over the gate of the university. No arrests or serious injuries were reported, but area merchants closed up shop early.
