The contemporary craft movement is showcased in an exhibition of some 100 works described as "outstanding," from the collection of the Renwick Gallery at the National Museum of American Art.
Highlights include rich embroidery that reinterprets traditional carpet designs; a luster ceramic piece by Beatrice Wood decorated with figures symbolizing mankind's struggles and triumphs; a monumental glass sculpture that plays with light; and a set of 40 enamels illustrating Bible stories. The exhibition is "The Renwick at 25," and it inaugurates what the museum, part of the Smithsonian, says will be a yearlong celebration of its 25th anniversary.
The exhibition is on view through July 13.
