Christena Adelia Hardman Herbert, age 93, died May 9, 1997 at her daughter's home in Springville where she had been since January.

She was born May 6, 1904 in Osmond, Wyoming to John and Mary Elvina Hill Hardman. In 1916 the family moved to North Myton Bench. Her desire for learning was strong. After much sacrifice and responsibility she graduated from seminary and in 1925 from Roosevelt High School."Babe", as she was known to most, married Don Carlos Herbert February 3, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were the parents of 11 children. They lived in Salt Lake City for 18 years, moving to a home on the Whiterocks road in 1972. Christena always worked hard serving wherever service was needed. Active in her church, held many positions. Was an avid genealogist, spending much of her time doing research. She enjoyed writing poetry, her yard and flowers, the time spent with her family, and attending the temple as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by five sons and five daughters: Lois Farnsworth, Gusher. Loran (Dixie) Herbert, Victor, MO; Melvin (Betty) Herbert, Bountiful; Marie (Hienz) Vosgarau, Yeteve (George) Katsos, Everett (Jennifer) Herbert, all of Salt lake City; Leslie (Jane) Herbert, Grant (Gail) Herbert, all of Roosevelt; Venita Rowley, Springville; Linda (Don) Kilgrow, Monticello; 63 grandchildren, 124 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Delsa Michie, Washington, UT; and Minnie Ashton, Tremonton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, in 1973; one daughter, Yvonne Gibson; four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brothers, John "Bill" and George Hardman; sisters, Gertrude Ashton, Hazel Drolligner, Myrtle Fausett and Ann Michie.

Funeral service Monday, 11 a.m. at the Ballard LDS Chapel on Highway 40, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment, Roosevelt Memorial Park under direction of Hullinger-Olpin Mortuary.
