A man thrown from a sailboat during a botched rescue attempt was dead when a Navy helicopter lifted him from the ocean hours later.

Two other people were rescued from the stranded sailboat and were in stable condition, the Coast Guard said Sunday.Richard Miller of Saunderstown, R.I., and Raymond Corona of Newport, R.I., were thrown into the water late Saturday when a merchant ship accidentally rammed the sailboat in its rescue attempt, Coast Guard spokesman Brandon Brewer said. Corona managed to get back on the boat, but Miller's body was found after daylight Sunday.
