For the second time in two days, a toddler almost drowned while playing in a residential back yard.

Ryan Young, 18 months, fell into an above-grade swimming pool Sunday afternoon at 4471 W. 5700 South about 3 p.m.Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Mike Ulibarri said the child apparently wandered away from adult supervision during a family gathering at the home. He somehow climbed up to the rim of the pool and fell in, Ulibarri said.

People at the scene pulled the boy from the water and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The child's heart had stopped and he was not breathing, Ulibarri said.

However, paramedics were able to restore his heartbeat and had him breathing through artificial means at the scene.

A medical helicopter transported Young to Primary Children's Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Monday.

Also in serious condition Monday at the same hospital was a 2-year-old boy who almost drowned Saturday in a creek behind his grandparents' house in East Mill Creek. The condition of the two children has been upgraded, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

Hagen Johnson apparently wandered away from adults in the front yard of the residence at 2122 E. Evergreen Ave. (3435 South) and fell into the swollen stream in the back-yard. He was swept about a half block downstream before his father found him and pulled him from the water.
