BYU's women's golf team matched its seed by finishing 16th Saturday at the NCAA West Regional Tournament.
The top 11 teams from the regional advance to the NCAA tournament in Columbus, Ohio, later this month.The Cougars shot 305 in the final round of the three-day tournament to finish the tournament at 912, one stroke behind Northern Arizona in 15th and 15 strokes behind Washington and Oklahoma State, which tied for 11th. Washington won a playoff to earn the final NCAA spot.
Arizona State won the tournament with a one-over par 865, one stroke ahead of host Arizona. Stanford, the leader after the first two rounds, dropped to third with a total of 870.
The Cougars started strong on the front nine of the final round but ran out of gas on the back nine in the hot, humid weather that preceded a late afternoon thunderstorm at the Randolph Park North Golf Course in Tucson.
