Jeanne Sant Carney, 68, passed away May 10, 1997 in Paradise, Utah, after a long battle with cancer.
Jeanne was born August 28, 1928 in Markham Gulch, Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Robert Smith Sant and Natalie Willis Sant. At age three she moved with the family to Concord, Calif. In 1946, Jeanne returned to Salt lake City to attend the University of Utah. There, she met and married Durland Barker Carney on September 11, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they made their home in Taylorsville, Utah. In 1953, the returned to Concord where they reared four children; two born in Utah and two in Calif. In 1982, Jeanne and Durland returned to Utah, selecting beautiful Paradise for their retirement retreat. In 1997 they celebrated fifty years of marriage.Carrying on the musical traditions of her family, Jeanne was an accomplished pianist and for over 40 years served as organist for a number of the Latter-day Saints wards. She was also a gifted painter, sculptor, seamstress, quilter, gardener, and breadmaker. And, to those who know her, her love of cats was legendary. In everything she did, she went beyond the ordinary.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Durland; son, Michael (Jo Ann), daughter Leslie, son, Todd, and daughter, Kimberlee (Jim) Madison; grandchildren, Wade, Lia, Marnie, Sarah, Lance, Matthew, Daniel, Christopher, Nicole, and Aaron; and great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna, Shawn, and Stuart. A fifth great-grandchild is due to granddaughter Lia in July.
Services will be held on 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 15th, at the Paradise Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing for family and friends will be in the the Relief Society room beginning at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jeanne's name to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah, 84741-5001.
