Karl Cates wrote an article called "Want to make a difference? Try getting big men behind you" on April 8. I am Danny Davis, the University of Utah football player mentioned in the article who got the Utah Jazz to sign a petition saying they were in favor of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.
I have had the opportunity to receive an excellent education while at the same time participating in Division I football. I am not only an all-WAC conference honorable mention football player but also an academic all-WAC football player.I have learned many things while playing football and going to school at the U. One thing I have learned is that we must stand up for what we believe in. I would like to thank the Jazz for supporting the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act. The Jazz, along with thousands of other people, are willing to stand up and support an act that will save U.S. taxpayers more than $100 million, create more than 2,300 jobs, and, at the same time, restore the environment.
I have presented these signatures along with many others to Rep. Merrill Cook. He was very polite and looked over all of them, but now we need him to act on this very important and vital legislative act by co-sponsoring NREPA. If we get Cook to support NREPA, we will save big money, big environment and big jobs. It also makes him the kind of leader we elected into Congress. I would like to thank the Jazz for what they do in our community, and I wish them the best of luck in the playoffs.
