In the newspaper April 16, there was an offending article about Silverchair's show at Saltair with Local H and Handsome.
What offended me was how negatively opinionated News staff writer Jeff Vice was toward Silverchair. The review did not talk much about the show but how horrible and untalented he thought the bands were.In last Wednesday's newspaper, Jeff Vice wrote, "Tuesday nights headache-inducing set by the teenage trio showed they no longer want to be Pearl Jam (evidently they finally discovered they're not that talented), but they'll settle for being Alice in Chains."
In an interview the band had with Livewire magazine, the band was asked about being compared to other bands. "On the first album everyone was comparing us to all the bands from Seattle, where our main influences were still Black Sabbath and Zeppelin and stuff. And that was kind of annoying us a bit. Not that we didn't like the bands from Seattle, but on this album we don't think we're really going to be compared to anyone at all, I think we pretty much sound the way we sound."
Mike Smith from Livewire magazine wrote, "Daniel, who's tousled blond hair has earned him unfairly placed Kurt Cobain rip-off accusations (as if there was some genetic mastermind who bred the guy in a lab), warms up quite quickly also." When the band was asked about the Nirvana controversy, Gillies said, "It's kind of getting to be a bit old."
