Hundreds of people stumbled through smoke-filled stairwells and hallways as they fled an electrical fire at a 17-story condominium complex. No one was killed.
When firefighters arrived at 2 a.m. Sunday, some residents were hanging from their windows and had to be rescued with ladders. More than 300 fled their homes.Ten people were sent to the hospital, mostly suffering from smoke inhalation; 19 were treated at the scene.
Fire Chief Luis Garcia said some type of electrical malfunction started the fire and smoke spread through several floors of the Triton Tower Condominium. The blaze began in the third-floor parking garage.
