Roland Wilding Coon, beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 11, 1997 at his home in Erda. He was 80 years old.
He was raised and attended school in the Pleasant Green area.On April 25, 1942 he married LaRue Smith of Garfield. Their marriage was sealed in the Logan LDS Temple January 9, 1963. They lived in Magna until November 1948 when they moved to Erda.
Roland loved to farm and work with the soil. He also worked at the Salt Plant in Lake Point and owned his own construction company. He was always a hard worker and provided for his family. He loved the land, wide open spaces, and going to games at the ball park in Erda and associating with friends there, especially the Warr family.
He was a member of the LDS Church and has held many and various positions in the Erda Ward over the past 49 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, LaRue, of Erda; son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Marcia, of Henderson NV; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jimmy Dean Palmer of Grantsville; 10 grandchildren, Rick, Kari (serving a mission in Houston, Texas), Kami, Robbie, Randy, all of Grantsville; Marty, Kevin, Peter, Jerilyn, and Justin Coon, of Henderson, NV; two brothers, Theron (Laurie), Evan (Janice), three sisters, Lola (Roy) Hardman, Naomi ( Art) Adams, and Estella (Ken) Aston.
In addition, he was given the cherished name of Dadda Coon by Janet Pack, Suzanne (Kirk) Matthews and Art (Tauna) Boyce and their children: Brent, Miranda, Chelsi, Derek, Rylie, and Dalin, who have spent many hours in our home and whom he thought of as his own. Also good friends and neighbors, Matt, Diane, Tricia, Jake and Amanda McArthur.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Irvin and LeRoy; and sister, Louise.
His passing has left a great void in our lives, but we know we will be together again.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 1997, 1 p.m. in the Erda Chapel, Highway 36 and Erda Way. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, and Thursday, 12-12:45 p.m. at the church in Erda. Interment, Grantsville Cemetery.
