Marian Sander Olsen, 76, passed away May 12, 1997 at her home.
Born January 11, 1921 in Ogden, Utah to Cornelius Hoving and Virginia Petterson Sander. Married Clair Boyd Olsen, April 27, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Marian graduated from Utah State University majoring in physical education and dance. She taught at both Weber and Box Elder High Schools. In 1944 she was chosen as one of the first female Red Cross swimming and life saving instructors to travel and teach throughout the state of Utah. Many years were spent in leadership positions in both her church and community including over 20 years in Girl Scouts with several years in service as Neighborhood Chairman for Tooele County. In 1985 she was chosen Mother of the Year from Tooele County and was first runner-up for the State of Utah.Survivors: husband, Clair Boyd of Salt Lake City; son and daughters, Chad (Rose Mary) of Salt Lake City; Taunya (James) Martin of Sandy; Debra (John) Turner of Raleigh, NC; Terrell (Lincoln) Frazier of Seal Beach, CA; Heidi (Chester) Elton of Summit, NJ; 11 grandchildren; sister, Barbara Randall (Bill) Klein of Whittier, CA.
Funeral services Friday, May 16, 1997, 12:00 noon, Little Cottonwood Ward Chapel, 6350 S. Rodeo Lane (1540 East). Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 S. 1700 East, Thursday 6-8 p.m. and at the church Friday, one hour prior to the service. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 525 S. 300 West, SLC 84101.
