Juab is the defending champion and North Summit's Derek Fox is the player to beat, but Rowland Hall just may be the team to beat in Wednesday's 2A state golf tournament at Spanish Oaks golf course in Spanish Fork.
Fox, a junior, is the two-time defending state medalist, but Fox isn't a cinch to three-peat. He should face a strong challenge from Tommy Sharp and Mike Stewart from Rowland Hall along with Juab's Kyler Lunt.Lunt finished second beind Fox last year and heads up a strong returning cast that will be defending its title.
But Juab finished second in Region 14. Rowland Hall got a bit of revenge from last year's one-stroke loss to the Wasps at state, by edging Juab for the region title, making up 18 strokes in the final match to win by four shots.
Rowland Hall coach Lori Dall figures the top three teams last year will once again battle it out for the state title.
"I think it would be us, Juab and Waterford based on their team score of 310," she said. "But Juab has everyone back, so I know they'll be tough to beat."
