The building, portions of which date back to 1899, had its exterior cleaned and restored, a new roof put on, and extensive interior renovation work done, including installation of a new heating and cooling system.
Commissioner Carol Page, who directs the county's Facilities Management Department, oversaw the $3 million project.
Under direction of the newly formed Davis County Arts Advisory Committee, 80 artists from Davis County were contacted about hanging their works in the courthouse hallways.
About two dozen responded, and a variety of artwork now decorates the building. The works are for sale. A percentage of the sale price will go into a fund to buy art for permanent display in the complex.
The first courthouse in Davis County was built of adobe bricks in 1856 for $6,000. It stood on a small knoll just north of the current building.
Construction on what is now the current courthouse began in 1889, and renovations and additions followed in 1930 and 1955.
