The Central Davis County Sewer District Board has approved its bond proposal and impact fee program, meaning residents will see a $2 a month increase in user fees beginning July 1.
New home builders will also pay more in the district, which serves Kaysville, Farmington and Fruit Heights, with a $1,700 sewer impact fee - up $700 from the old fee."We need the plant expansion to keep pace with growth," district manager Leland Meyers said.
He said without any expansion, the district would reach capacity in two years. The result of that would likely have been a moratorium on new growth.
The fee increases approved by the sewer board were a compromise - one that charges more for both current users and new growth. Back in March, the district had considered one of two options - a monthly user fee increase of $4-5 a month to finance its expansion, or go with a larger impact fee of $2,500.
The last time the sewer district expanded its facilities was in 1990. Both new expansion phases will be completed by 1999.
