Ora Haws Vance, 87, passed away at home in Provo, Utah, Monday, May 12, 1997 of causes incident to age.

She was born Feb. 26, 1910 to Gilberth Lynn and Evaline Smith Haws. Graduated from Provo High School in 1928 where she was active in student government. She continued her education at Brigham Young University where she was also active in student government, graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Ora married R. Wendell Vance in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 28, 1935. They made their home in the Chicago, Illinois area where Wendell established his medical practice. They returned to Provo in 1957. She taught at BYU in the Clothing and Textiles Department. She was an active member of the LDS Church, Lady Lions Auxiliary and the Provo Ladies' Literary Club. Many have benefited from her creative talents.Ora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Gilbert S. Haws and her sister, Lois H. Muench. She is surviving by a brother, Robert S. Haws, Ogden; a sister, Vivian (Mrs. C. Grant Richins), Wallsburg and children, Mrs. Robert E. Brush (Diane), Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Jerry G. McDonald (Loya), Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Carl V. Larson (Margaret), Spanish Fork, Utah; Mrs. Claude C. Richards (Cynthia), Provo, Utah; Dr. Lee Wendell Vance, Roseburg, Ore.; and Mrs. Stephen M. West (Cosette), Orem, Utah. She has 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 1997, 11 a.m. at Berg Mortuary in Provo. Friends and family may call at Berg Mortuary, Thursday evening, May 15, 1997 from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be at Provo City Cemetery.
