Police chased a driver through three cities and two counties at speeds of more than 100 mph Tuesday.
About 11:30 a.m., Clearfield police officer Russell Helm spotted a car, which had been reported stolen, near 300 North and 200 West. The car sped away when the officer tried to check the license plate number, said Clearfield City Attorney Lawrence L. Waggoner.Police chased the car south through Clearfield and then north on State Street to Roy, Waggoner said. In Roy the car traveled west on 6000 South and then north on 3500 West into North Ogden, where it sped at more than 50 mph through a school zone.
The car reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and ran several stop signs and stop lights during the chase, Helm said. At one point in Roy, four traffic flaggers had to run out of the car's way.
The chase ended at 642 E. 650 North in North Ogden at 11:53 a.m., Waggoner said. The driver fled on foot, but police soon found a suspect with the help of local residents.
Three juveniles who had been in the car told police they did not know the car was stolen and had asked the driver to stop and let them out during the chase. Two female passengers had repeatedly tried to exit the car during the chase, Waggoner said.
The suspect, Anthony Martinez, 24, Layton, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of unlawful detainer, reckless driving, aggravated assault, evading, and receiving stolen property.
The suspect was on parole for a felony theft conviction, Waggoner said. He had been ordered to wear an electronic tracking device on his ankle as part of his parole but had cut it off.
